Grace, style and prestige
The
Manchester Unity Building is located in the heart of the CBD at the
prominent intersection of Collins and Swanston streets, opposite the
Melbourne Town Hall and diagonally opposite the Westin Hotel. Designed by Marcus Barlow and completed at the record rate of one floor per week, this iconic building was constructed in the midst of the Great Depression, symbolizing hope for thousands of Melburnians. Completed in 1932, the Manchester Unity Building is the home of Melbourne’s first “travelling stairs” – the escalator (now modernized) that today services Smile Solutions on the Level 1 mezzanine. |
